Diagram of a standard solar pv installation

Here is a simple diagram of a typical Solar PV installation on a domestic property.

The maximum size of pv system on an average home is 4KW, which is 16 standard panels (modules).

Any bigger than this and the government tariffs are smaller, so most people will want to try and get as close as possible to the size.

You can see from the diagram how the electricity generated by the panels is led inside the house to an 'inverter' where it is converted into 'AC' electricity (the normal type we use to run our houses), monitored on a 'generation meter', and then used in your house when needed, or sent out into the National Grid.
